Title
“ALISHA KARATHURUTHEL MEMORIAL EVER ROLLING TROPHY FOR THE
OVERALL CHAMPION UNIT AND $1,001 CASH AWARD”
Background
KCCNA Executive Committee decided to implement an award titled ‘Alisha Karathuruthel
Memorial Ever Rolling Trophy for the Overall Champion Unit and $1,001 Cash Award’ to the
member unit which scores the highest points in the calculation of overall championship criteria.
The sponsor shall provide an ever rolling trophy and additionally endow a cash award of $1,001
during each KCCNA convention.
Objective:
The objective of determining an overall championship shall be to foster and recognize the unit
with various talented individuals who excelled in all the competitions when compared with all
other units.
Scope
The ‘overall championship’ shall bear significance to the meaning of the term used and
therefore, the scope in determining the overall championship should encompass all the
competitions included in the convention.
Procedure
1. Determine all the competition categories included in the convention. (Arts and Literary,
Indoor and Outdoor Sports and Games, Procession, Unit Cultural Program, Mr. Kna, Miss.
Kna and Battle of the Cities)
2. Each category shall be proportionately weighted based upon the time, number of people and
the effort involved in that particular category.
3. If additional categories are included or if any of the categories are excluded, appropriate
weight shall be given and the total shall remain within 100%.
4. Overall championship calculation shall only take the final points awarded to each unit in the
respective category and calculate it for overall championship in the predetermined weighted
average mathematical calculation.
5. In all competition categories except for Mr. Kna & Miss. Kna, the respective committees
shall provide the maximum points obtainable and the score received by each participating
unit. In Mr. Kna & Miss. Kna competition, since the scoring completes only at the end of the
final round of the competition, the committee shall consider the points received by the
winner, first runner up and second runner up in the competition.
6. Overall championship shall not create separate guidelines for the different competition
categories.
Calculation
Competition Category Weighted Average
Arts & Literary competition 30%
Indoor and Outdoor Sports and Games competition 30%
Unit Cultural Program Competition 20%
Procession 14%
Mr. Kna 2%
Miss. Kna 2%
Battle of the Cities 2%
Total 100%
The formula shall be:
(Points received in the category ÷ Maximum points allowed in the category) x weighted
average of the category
Eg: A unit scored 135 points in arts and literary competition out of a maximum point of 255 (The
total maximum obtainable if the unit wins first prizes in each item in the category). The weighted
average is 30%.
The calculation shall be: (135÷255) x 30 = 15.88 points
Arts & Literary competition:
Total points actually received by each unit shall be taken for the calculation. The maximum
points allowed shall be the maximum points obtainable if a unit wins first place in all the events.
Indoor and Outdoor Sports and Games competition
Total points actually received by each unit shall be taken for the calculation. The maximum
points allowed shall be the maximum points obtainable if a unit wins first place in all the events.
Unit Cultural Program Competition
The scoring shall be on common criteria and same maximum point total, for all the units. Total
points actually received by each unit shall be taken for the calculation even if the units are
grouped into different groups or not. This is to give reasonable weight for the unit even if it did
not win in its group due to tough competition, but was better than many who won in the other
group.
Procession
Total points actually received by each unit shall be taken for the calculation. The maximum
points allowed shall be the maximum points obtainable if a unit wins first place in all the
categories judged.
Mr. Kna
Total points received by the winner, first runner up and the second runner up shall be separately
taken for the calculation. The maximum points allowed shall be the maximum points obtainable
at the end of the final round of the competition in all the categories judged.
Miss. Kna
Total points received by the winner, first runner up and the second runner up shall be separately
taken for the calculation. The maximum points allowed shall be the maximum points obtainable
at the end of the final round of the competition in all the categories judged.
Battle of the Cities
Total points actually received by each unit shall be taken for the calculation. The maximum
points allowed shall be the maximum points obtainable.
Process
A committee consisting of one KCCNA Executive committee member or National Council
representative, each competition category’s committee chairman and the sponsor or his/her
assignee shall conduct the process.
The committee shall receive the total points awarded to each participating unit and the respective
maximum points allowed, in the competition categories that are taken for the overall
championship calculation. Once the points are received, it shall calculate it based on the
predetermined mathematical formula and determine the overall championship unit. The unit with
the highest point receives the Overall Championship. It is recommended that, after the overall
point calculations are done, the total points received by each unit in the overall calculation shall
be multiplied by 10 and declared, in order to reflect an attractive score.
Award Ceremony
Since it encompasses all competitions, Overall Championship is the most significant recognition
awarded for competitions during KCCNA convention. Therefore, the trophy and the cash award
shall be awarded during the ceremony at the banquet. It is recommended that the sponsor or
his/her assignee shall present the award to the winner. |
